The
Civil Court in New York is at the front lines of the administration of
justice. Judges in the Civil Court decide cases concerning housing, health
and consumer debts among many others that are critical to the people’s
day-to-day lives. A large percentage of the litigants cannot even afford
a lawyer to defend their rights before the Court. It is vitally important,
therefore, that judges of the Civil Court be hardworking, compassionate
and fair.
After many years of representing the poorest New Yorkers, I want to ensure
that all people who come before the Civil Court have an equal opportunity
to plead their case and be treated justly and with dignity. Civil Court
judges have to make tough decisions. With the experiences of having managed
a staff of lawyers and other professionals for the last six years and
practicing for 20 years as an attorney, I am confident I can meet that
challenge for the people of New York. |
